Abstract

Background: Laparotomy is a major surgery that involves making incisions through various layers of the abdominal wall to access the abdominal cavity. Organs in the abdomen can experience problems such as bleeding, perforation, cancer, and obstruction. One approach used is non-pharmacological pain management, such as relaxation, distraction, massage, guided imagery, aromatherapy, and Benson relaxation therapy. Benson relaxation is a method derived from deep breathing techniques that adds an element of trust from the patient, thus creating a peaceful atmosphere. Objective: To describe the results of the analysis of nursing care for post-laparotomy patients with acute pain in the Lotus Ward, Prof. Dr. Margono Soekarjo Purwokerto Regional Hospital. Method: The case study involved five post-laparotomy patients experiencing acute pain. Data were collected using observation sheets. The next step was the administration of Benson therapy for 15 minutes in two cycles over three days. Results: The main nursing diagnosis that appeared in the five post-laparotomy patients was acute pain, implementation was carried out according to nursing interventions, namely providing Benson therapy, in this case the provision of Benson therapy, the results obtained were that the patient experienced a decrease in the pain scale after Benson therapy was carried out. Recommendation: Nurses are expected to be able to apply Benson therapy to handle acute pain nursing problems in post-laparotomy patients.
