Abstract

Background; Mental health disorders have become a global concern that requires immediate attention, with approximately 970 million people affected in 2024. In Indonesia, more than 30% of individuals experience low self-esteem, and around 40% of the 2.5 million people with mental disorders are affected by this condition. This situation requires appropriate interventions, such as positive affirmation therapy using a flashcard game, to improve patients’ self-esteem. General Objective; To analyze nursing care and determine the effectiveness of using a Flashcard Game in improving self-esteem among clients with chronic low self-esteem nursing problems. Method; This study employed a case study design involving five participants. Chronic low self-esteem was measured using a chronic low self-esteem signs and symptoms questionnaire administered before and after the positive affirmation intervention using flashcards. The intervention was conducted in six sessions over six weeks. Results of Nursing Care; After six intervention sessions, the mean HDRK score decreased from 14 (58.3%) in the pre-test to 8.5 (35.8%) in the post-test, indicating an overall improvement in the condition of all patients, with a total reduction of 22.5% in the HDRK score following the intervention. The highest level of self-esteem improvement was observed in patients 2 and 4, each with a score of 15 (62.5%). Meanwhile, the greatest reduction in signs and symptoms occurred in patient 3, with a decrease of 7 points (29.1%). On the ability observation sheet (maximum score 5), the mean score increased from 0.2 (4%) before the intervention to 4.6 (92%) after the intervention. The best outcomes were demonstrated by patients 2 and 5, who achieved the maximum score of 5 (100%). Conclusion; The use of flashcards was effective in enhancing patients’ ability with chronic low self-esteem to perform positive affirmations, recognize self-worth, and develop a more adaptive self-perception. Recommendation; This study is expected to serve as baseline data for the development of sustainable nursing interventions related to chronic low self-esteem.
