Abstract

Background: Type II Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic condition requiring long-term management. The duration of the disease is suspected to significantly influence the physical, psychological, and social well-being of patients. Objective: This study aims to describe the quality of life of Type II Diabetes Mellitus patients based on the duration of illness at Pejagoan Health Center, Kebumen. Methods: This descriptive quantitative study used a cross-sectional approach with 30 respondents. Data were collected using the Diabetes Quality of Life (DQOL) questionnaire, covering satisfaction, impact, and worry domains. Results: Most respondents were aged 60–70 years (46.7%), female (83.3%), and elementary school graduates (46.7%). The most common illness duration was 1–5 years (40.0%). Overall, 60% of patients reported good quality of life, while 40% reported poor QoL. Notably, 100% of patients ill for <1 year had good quality of life. However, significant declines occurred in groups ill for 1–5 years (10.0% poor), 5–10 years (16.6% poor), and >10 years (13.3% poor). The "impact" and "worry" domains showed the most drastic decline as duration increased. Conclusion: The quality of life in Type II Diabetes Mellitus patients decreases sharply as the disease progresses, particularly after the 5-year mark. Recommendations: Healthcare providers should implement intensive psychosocial interventions and complication-focused education for chronic patients (>5 years). Future research should utilize larger samples and analytical methods to identify further determinants
