Abstract
Background: Bronchopneumonia is a serious respiratory disease in children which is a leading cause of death in children, ditandai dengan peradangan pada bronkiolus dan alveoli. This condition often causes problems with ineffective airway clearance due to the accumulation of secretions which inhibits the oxygen supply. An effective non-pharmacological intervention to improve oxygenation status is the Pursed Lips Breathing technique using a balloon as the medium, which functions to improve oxygen saturation and reduce the respiratory rate in children. Objective: To determine the analysis of nursing care for bronchopneumonia patients with ineffective airway clearance at the Muhammadiyah PKU Hospital in Gombong. Methods: This scientific work uses a descriptive method with a case study approach. The subjects consisted of five children aged 5–6 years who were diagnosed with bronchopneumonia. Data collection was carried out by performing the pursed lips breathing technique on the five patients once a day for 3 consecutive days. Evaluation is carried out by comparing the patient's oxygen saturation before and after therapy. Results: The application of pursed lips breathing therapy using balloon blowing media showed an increase in oxygen saturation in all pediatric patients with bronchopneumonia. The majority of patients experienced an increase in oxygen saturation from a baseline of <95% to 96–99% after the intervention as well as a decrease in respiratory rate (tachypnea), eliminating additional wheezing breath sounds. Conclusion: Pursed lips breathing therapy by blowing balloons is effective in increasing oxygen saturation in children with bronchopneumonia. This therapy has been proven to increase oxygen saturation, reduce respiratory rate, and eliminate additional wheezing breath sounds. Recommendation: Pursed lips breathing therapy by blowing balloons is recommended as a non-pharmacological intervention to address children's respiratory problems in hospitals and the community. Families need to be educated so they can perform this therapy independently at home. Further research using a quantitative design with a larger sample size is recommended to strengthen the evidence for its effectiveness.
