Abstract
Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by elevated blood glucose levels resulting from insulin resistance and decreased insulin secretion. One of the main pillars in the management of diabetes mellitus is dietary regulation, including the consumption of fruits. Objective: This study aimed to determine the relationship between fruit consumption and the increase in random blood glucose levels among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Methods: This study employed a quantitative approach with an observational analytic design and a cross-sectional method. The study population consisted of all patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus who were hospitalized in the Multazam Ward of PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital, totaling 124 patients. The sample comprised 55 respondents selected using a purposive sampling technique. Results: Most respondents had fruit consumption levels ranging from rarely to frequently, and their random blood glucose levels were mostly in the moderate to high categories. The Spearman correlation test showed that there was a relationship between fruit consumption and increased random blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Conclusion: There is a relationship between fruit consumption and increased random blood glucose levels among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Recommendation: Future researchers are recommended to expand the study population by conducting research in multiple hospitals and to consider additional variables such as medical history and age.
