Abstract

Background: Coughing is a common symptom of respiratory tract infections in toddlers. It is a reflex reaction and a protective mechanism of the lungs against irritating viruses. Treatment for cough in toddlers can involve pharmacological therapy, such as decongestants, antitussives, and antibiotics, as well as non-pharmacological therapies like cough massage therapy and eucalyptus aromatherapy. Cough massage is a touch therapy that improves blood circulation, boosts immunity, and releases endorphin hormones, helping toddlers relax and eliminating the virus causing the cough. Eucalyptus aromatherapy contains cineole, which has mucolytic, bronchodilating, and antiinflammatory effects and reduces the rate of exacerbation. Objective: To provide complementary midwifery care interventions, specifically cough massage therapy and eucalyptus aromatherapy, to reduce cough duration in toddlers aged 1-5 years in Wanareja Village, Wanareja District, Cilacap Regency. Methods: The research employed a descriptive method with a case study approach. The case study subjects were 5 toddlers with a cough. The instruments used in this study were SOPs, observation sheets, and midwifery care formats. Data were presented through conclusions based on subjective and objective data, documented in midwifery care resumes. Results: The assessment showed a decrease in the number of coughs experienced by toddlers after implementing care for three days. Recommendation: The results of this midwifery care can be used as a reference for addressing cough problems in toddlers using cough massage therapy and eucalyptus aromatherapy.
