Abstract

Background: Hypertension is one of the most common cardiovascular diseases in society, being a major problem not only in Indonesia but also in the world, because it is one of the risk factors for vascular disease which is the main cause of mortality in the world. Based on Riskesdas (2018), the prevalence of hypertension is around 30-45% in adults and increases progressively with age, where it is known that there is a prevalence of >60% at the age of >60 years. Hypertension in the elderly if systolic blood pressure ≥ 140 mmHg or diastolic blood pressure ≥ 90 mmHg. This is due to the deterioration of the body's work function, a decrease in the elasticity of the aortic wall and thickening of the heart valves which makes the valves stiff. Hypertension can be controlled with two techniques, pharmacology and non-pharmacology. One of the effective nonpharmacological treatments to reduce high blood pressure is acupressure. Objective: Performing complementary midwifery care with acupressure therapy in the elderly with hypertension at the elderly Posyandu Jatilawang Banyumas. Methods: The type of research is a case study. Data were obtained from observation sheets, checklists, books, journals, e-books. There were five participants who performed acupressure, the five participants met the inclusion criteria. The research instruments used were observation sheets and quizzes. Results: After acupressure therapy there was a decrease in systolic blood pressure by an average of 12 mmHg and a decrease in diastolic blood pressure by an average of 5 mmHg. The hypertension category before therapy was grade II hypertension and after acupressure complementary innovation it became grade I hypertension as many as 2 people (40%), Pre hypertension 2 people (40%), and 1 person (20%) in the grade II category. Acupressure therapy at points GV20, GB20, LI.4, PC6) and LR3 is effective for lowering blood pressure in the elderly with hypertension. Suggestion: The elderly are expected to be able to perform acupressure massage therapy independently to reduce high blood pressure.
