Abstract

Background: Traditional medicines circulating in the market are required to meet safety, quality, and efficacy standards for consumers. However, many business actors often include exaggerated and misleading taglines in traditional medicine advertisements that do not comply with the criteria BPOM Regulation No. 34 of 2022. Objective: This Professional Project Practice aims to analyze the findings of BPOM supervision in Tasikmalaya regarding non-compliant traditional medicine advertisements in 2023 and the strategies implemented to address them. Methods: This study used a descriptive method based on regulatory criteria for traditional medicine advertising, along with direct observation at BPOM in Tasikmalaya. Results: Pharmaceutical care findings indicated that circulating traditional medicines have not fully complied with applicable regulations. BPOM Tasikmalaya conducted interventions on 208 advertisements in 2023, of which 49.51% did not meet regulatory requirements. The implementation of advertising supervision was carried out through both pre-market and post-market control programs. The results indicated that 50.48% of traditional medicine advertisements complied with the regulations. Recommendation: Business actors are required to implement Good Traditional Medicine Manufacturing Practices (CPOTB) in all business activities to ensure the safety, quality, and efficacy/benefits of products for consumers.
