Abstract

Background: Body image disorders are psychological problems that often arise in postoperative breast cancer patients (Ca Mammae) due to changes in body shape, structure, and function after mastectomy. This condition has an impact on decreasing confidence, anxiety, and disrupting the patient's adaptation process. Positive affirmation intervention is one of the educational measures that can be used to help patients develop a positive mindset, strengthen self-acceptance, and reduce symptoms of body image disorders. Objective: This case study aims to explain the nursing care process for body image disorders using positive affirmative educational measures in five postoperative patients of Ca Mammae in Inayah Ward of PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Methods: This is a case study with stages of assessment, diagnosis determination, planning, implementation, and nursing evaluation. Positive affirmation interventions were provided over three sessions for each patient using the positive affirmation SOP and the Body Image Scale (BIS) questionnaire as measurement tools. Results: The results showed that all patients experienced a decrease in body image impairment scores at each meeting with an average decrease of 2–4 points after therapy were administered. Patients appear more confident, begin to accept physical changes, and are able to express feelings positively. Recommendation: Positive affirmations can be applied because they are effective in reducing body image disorders and helping patients improve self-acceptance
