Abstract
The use of traditional medicine, especially herbal remedies, is increasingly favored by the public due to its perceived efficacy and lower side effects compared to synthetic drugs. Brotowali (Tinospora crispa L.) is a well-known medicinal plant in Indonesia with various therapeutic benefits, including antidiabetic, antipyretic, and antimicrobial properties. This study aims to evaluate the quality standards of brotowali stem simplisia used as herbal raw material at the Herbal Health Tourism Clinic (WKJ) Kalibakung Tegal. The evaluation method includes organoleptic, macroscopic, microscopic, physicochemical, and microbiological assessments based on the standards of the Indonesian Herbal Pharmacopoeia and Materia Medica Indonesia. Parameters tested include moisture content, ash content, drying loss, and active compounds such as berberine and tinosporin. The simplisia was sourced from both internal cultivation and external suppliers that meet quality criteria. The results indicate that the brotowali stem simplisia meets the required quality standards in terms of identity, safety, and consistency of active compounds. Therefore, it is deemed suitable for use as raw material in herbal preparations at WKJ Kalibakung Tegal.
