Abstract

Background: Typhoid fever in children is generally characterized by fever lasting more than one week, requiring hospitalization. During the treatment period, children often undergo intravenous therapy procedures that may cause anxiety. One approach that can be applied is cuddle therapy. Objective: To describe nursing care through the implementation of cuddle therapy in children experiencing anxiety during intravenous therapy. Methods: This scientific work used a case study design involving five children diagnosed with typhoid fever. Instruments included nursing care documentation formats, a nursing kit, an anxiety observation sheet using the Children’s Fear Score, and a cuddle therapy Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). Results: The case study results showed that all children experienced anxiety during intravenous therapy procedures. The priority nursing diagnosis was anxiety related to situational crisis. Interventions included anxiety reduction and cuddle therapy. Evaluation results indicated a decrease in anxiety levels, with the average score declining from 3.6 to 1.4. This study demonstrates that cuddle therapy can reduce anxiety levels in hospitalized children undergoing intravenous procedures. Recommendation: Future studies are recommended to involve a larg er number of participants and to develop variations of non-pharmacological therapies to enhance the effectiveness of anxiety management in children.
