Abstract
Background: Hypertension is a chronic condition in which a person’s blood pressure exceeds normal limits. This disease is classified as a non-communicable disease (NCD) because it cannot be transmitted between individuals. The causes of hypertension are divided into two categories: unmodifiable and controllable. Unmodifiable factors include age, gender, family history, and genetics. Controllable factors include smoking, excessive salt and saturated fat consumption, lack of exercise, and stress. Purpose: Provides an explanation of the results of the assessment of hypertensive patients with the application of a combination of progressive muscle relaxation and warm water immersion. Method: The research design in this scientific paper uses a case study approach. The method used is descriptive. Five patients were treated with a warm foot soak combined with progressive muscle relaxation to lower blood pressure in the elderly. Result: Blood pressure decreased before and after twice-daily warm foot soak therapy, with initial results ranging from 160/100 to 140/90 mmHg. Based on average calculations, systolic blood pressure decreased by 12.5 mmHg, while diastolic blood pressure decreased by 10 mmHg. Meanwhile, blood pressure decreased before and after performing progressive muscle relaxation for two days, with measurements ranging from 155/90 to 142/86 mmHg. The average systolic blood pressure decreased by 8.38 mmHg, while diastolic blood pressure decreased by 4.44 mmHg. Conclusion: Patient identity, assessment results, diagnosis, intervention, implementation and evaluation of warm water foot soaks combined with progressive muscle relaxation to lower blood pressure in the elderly. Recommendation: The effectiveness of soaking feet in warm water on reducing blood pressure in elderly people with hypertension.
