Abstract

Background: According to BPOM Regulation No. 104 of 2022, the National Agency of Drug and Food Control (BPOM) is a non-departmental state institution directly responsible to the President of the Republic of Indonesia. BPOM has the mandate to ensure that drugs and food circulating in society are safe, of good quality, and beneficial. The existence of BPOM is crucial because the public also needs assurance that the products they consume do not pose health risks. Research Objective: To identify and analyze the strategies of BPOM Banyumas in increasing public awareness of high-risk drugs and food through Communication, Information, and Education (KIE) activities.Research Method: This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach, conducted in June 2025. Research Results: The findings from the June 2025 study indicate that public knowledge about illegal drugs, the use of drugs without distribution permits, and the consumption of high-risk food remains low. Interventions were carried out through face-to-face counseling in schools and markets, distribution of printed media, and digital campaigns on BPOM’s official social media. Implementation involved collaboration with the health office, community leaders, and local organizations. Evaluation showed an increase in public awareness, marked by the growing habit of checking distribution permits, critical attitudes toward products, and community reports regarding dangerous drugs and food. Recommendations: It is necessary to develop interactive KIE modules for communities and schools. Strengthening digital literacy through social media applications is also recommended. These innovations are expected to expand the reach of education, increase public participation, and strengthen collaborative-based monitoring systems. Thus, KIE strategies will not only be informative but also transformative in shaping safe and healthy consumption behavior.
