Abstract
Patient safety in the Emergency Department (ED) is highly dependent on the proper management of high-alert medications (HAM). The fast-paced and high-pressure environment of the ED increases the risk of medication errors, particularly when medication storage is not appropriately managed, such as inadequate physical separation and lack of specific labeling. National guidelines, including the Indonesian Ministry of Health Regulation (Permenkes) No. 72 of 2016, emphasize strict supervision in the storage of high-alert medications. This study aimed to evaluate the compliance of the high-alert medication storage system in the Emergency Department with these standards and to identify potential risks of medication errors. This research employed a descriptive method through direct observation and fieldwork practice in the Emergency Department Pharmacy. The data were evaluated based on high- alert medication storage standards as stipulated in Permenkes No. 72 of 2016. The results showed an overall compliance rate of 92.44%. Look-Alike Sound-Alike (LASA) medications and concentrated electrolytes demonstrated 100% compliance, while medications requiring special handling achieved a compliance rate of 88.88%. Narcotic and psychotropic medications showed a compliance rate of 80.1%, with non-compliance mainly related to physical separation and labeling completeness. Overall, the storage system was categorized as good but still requires improvement. Recommendations include enhancing labeling, implementing stricter physical separation for high-risk medications, and conducting regular monitoring by pharmacy personnel to minimize medication errors.
