Abstract

Background : The prevalence of chronic kidney failure increases every year, around 37 million adults suffer from chronic kidney failure. Chronic kidney failure causes sufferers to undergo hemodialysis therapy. Hemodialysis therapy makes sufferers dependent on dialysis machines for life. Sufferers will experience changes in the psychological condition of chronic sorrow due to loss of kidney function. Objective : To determine the description of chonic sorrow in hemodialysis patients at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Method : This type of research is descriptive quantitative with a cross sectional approach. The instrument used was the Kendall Chronic Sorrow Instrument questionnaire with a Cronbach alpha number of 0.892. The sampling technique used a total sampling of 219 respondents. Data were processed using SPSS and analyzed using univariate tests. Results : Data on the characteristics of the majority of respondents were male 113 (51.6%). Middle adult age 170 (77.6%); elementary school education 78 (35.6%); housewife occupation 64 (29.2); income <500,000 139 (63.5%), undergoing hemodialysis 12-24 months 112 (51.1%); marital status 195 (89.0%); treatment financing using BPJS 219 (100%); undergoing hemodialysis twice a week 217 (99.1%). Data obtained on the description of chronic sorrow in hemodialysis patients for more than 1 year, namely that the majority experienced the possibility of chronic sadness, 150 (68.5%). Conclusion : Patients undergoing hemodialysis for more than 1 year experience the possibility of chronic sadness. Recommendation : PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital can improve supporting family gathering services for patients.
