Abstract

Drug demand planning is an important part of pharmaceutical logistics management in healthcare facilities. The two most commonly used methods to predict drug needs are the consumption method and the epidemiological method. Each approach has different characteristics, data requirements, and levels of accuracy. This literature study aims to analyze and compare the two methods based on scientific evidence and provide recommendations for their implementation in the Banyumas Regency Health Office. The method used in this research was a literature review from Google Scholar using the keywords "drug planning," "consumption method," and "epidemiological method" published between 2021 and 2025. The consumption method is effective for stable drug use patterns but is less adaptable to disease changes. While the epidemiological method is more accurate because it is based on disease trends, it requires a robust surveillance system and analytical capabilities. The combination planning method is most appropriate for the Banyumas Regency Health Office because it increases the accuracy of drug requirements and reduces the risk of stockouts and overstocking.
