Abstract

Background: Non-haemorrhagic (ischemic) stroke is a condition caused by blockage of blood vessels, resulting in partial or complete disruption of blood flow to the brain. This condition can lead to various disabilities, such as limb paralysis, speech difficulties, cognitive impairment, and emotional changes. In patients with non-haemorrhagic stroke who experience impaired physical mobility, rubber ball grasping therapy can be applied. This therapy aims to develop, maintain, and restore movement through motor exercises, stimulate hand movements and muscle contractions, and help recover lost motor function of the upper extremities. Objective: To analyse nursing care in non-haemorrhagic stroke patients with impaired physical mobility using rubber ball grasping therapy intervention measured by the Manual Muscle Testing (MMT) scale. Methods: This study used a descriptive design with a case study approach involving 5 clients experiencing physical mobility impairment. Results:The main nursing problem identified in this case study was impaired physical mobility, characterized by limb weakness. The implementation of rubber ball grasping therapy conducted over 6 sessions in 5 clients showed improvements in MMT scores for each client. Although the initial muscle strength was low, the therapy helped improve muscle strength to a better level. Recommendations: Future researchers are recommended to increase the sample size to enhance the generalizability of the results and to include a control group for comparison. In addition, extending the duration of the study (e.g., more than 3–5 days) is suggested to observe more significant and sustained improvements in muscle strength.
