Abstract

Background: Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) is a physiological state in which the heart is unable to maintain sufficient cardiac output to meet metabolic demands and tissue oxygenation, despite adequate venous return. This condition manifests clinically as fatigue, orthopnea, and peripheral edema. Common initial symptoms include dyspnea, fatigue, and coughing, often exacerbated by physical activity and accompanied by chest pain. Deep breathing exercise is one therapeutic intervention implemented to manage these symptoms. Objective: This study aims to implement comprehensive nursing care for patients with CHF through the application of Deep Breathing Exercises. Method: A descriptive qualitative design was employed using a case study approach to explore nursing care management in patients diagnosed with CHF. Results: Findings indicated that after a two-day nursing intervention, the patient achieved competence in performing deep breathing techniques independently during episodes of dyspnea. Clinical observations showed a regular respiratory rhythm, absence of accessory muscle use, and persistent vesicular breath sounds. Furthermore, the patient reported a significant reduction in perceived shortness of breath. Conclusion: Deep breathing exercise therapy is an effective intervention for alleviating dyspnea in patients suffering from CHF.
