Abstract

Background: Typhoid fever in children is an infectious disease that often requires prolonged hospitalization. Hospitalization can have psychological effects in the form of anxiety in children, particularly due to the unfamiliar environment and medical procedures. Untreated anxiety can hinder the healing process. One non-pharmacological intervention that can be used to reduce anxiety in children is coloringplaytherapy. Objective: To describe nursing care for children with typhoid fever with anxiety nursing problems through the application of coloring play therapy. Methods: This case study involved five preschool children (3–6 years old) who experienced typhoid fever and anxiety during hospitalization. The instruments used included a nursing care format, standard operating procedures for coloring play therapy, and anxiety levels measured using the Facial Image Scale (FIS). Result: The case study results showed that all children experienced a decrease in anxiety levels after being given coloring play therapy. Before the intervention, most children experienced severe to moderate anxiety, but after the intervention, this decreased to mild to no anxiety. Coloring play therapy has been shown to help children become calmer, more cooperative, and more able to adapt to the hospitalenvironment. Recommendations: It is recommended to involve a larger number of respondents and develop non-pharmacological therapy interventions so that the effectiveness of anxiety management in children can be increased.
