Abstract

Background: A person who has a history of hypertension, needs self-management to manage the disease in daily life. In improving self-management in the community, namely using education. Education through video is considered more effective in increasing a person's interest in the learning process to achieve optimal results. Aim: To determine the effectiveness of education through video on the level of knowledge about self-management of hypertensive patients at the Elderly Posyandu in Sembirkadipaten Village. Method: This study uses a quantitative descriptive research method with a preexperimental research design in the form of a one-group pre-test and post-test design. Sampling was conducted using the total sampling method with a sample of 35 respondents. The research instrument used a questionnaire sheet. Data analysis using the Wilcoxon test. Results: Characteristics of respondents based on the age of majority in the age range of 60-74 years were 28 respondents (80.0%) and respondents were dominated by female gender as many as 32 respondents (91.4%). A total of 26 respondents (74.3%) had a history of last elementary school education and most of the respondents worked as housewives as many as 16 respondents (45.7%). The average score before being given education through video was 26.20 (sufficient level of knowledge) and after education through video, the average score was 34.06 (level of good knowledge). The result of the Wilcoxon test was a significant value of 0.000 (sig 0.05). Conclusion: There is a significant influence between education through video on the level of knowledge of the elderly about self-management of hypertension patients. Recommendation: It is hoped that this study can be a source of information and for future research can make observations to find out self-management of hypertension and use a comparison group.
