Abstract

Background: Adulthood is a critical phase in the life cycle that is vulnerable to chronic diseases such as diabetes mellitus. The prevalence of diabetes in Indonesia reaches approximately 10.7 million cases, in line with increasing age and lack of physical activity. Non-pharmacological interventions such as brisk walking exercise have been proven effective in significantly reducing blood glucose levels. Objective: To provide an overview of family nursing care during the adult family developmental stage with the nursing problem of ineffective health maintenance using brisk walking exercise therapy. Method: This scientific paper employs a descriptive method with a case study approach. Data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation. The case study subjects were 3 families in the adult developmental stage experiencing ineffective health maintenance. Results: The assessment of three foster families showed that they were in the adult family developmental stage, with diabetes mellitus that had been present for an average of 6 years. The identified nursing problem was ineffective health maintenance. Interventions included education, counseling, and brisk walking exercise therapy. After eight sessions, the evaluation showed that the families began to understand their health problems, and brisk walking therapy helped stabilize blood glucose levels. Recommendation: Brisk walking exercise is an effective method for managing uncontrolled blood glucose levels.
