Abstract
Background: According to Indonesian Health Demography Survey 2012, Maternal Mortality Rate in Indonesia is 359 per 100,000 live births (Ministry of Health, 2013). Pregnancy Safer (MPS) is an effort to reduce maternal mortality (AKI) and infant mortality (IMR). Childbirth education is one of prenatal education forms to improve the knowledge of pregnant mothers and their positive behavioral changes. The knowledge is about childbirth, postpartum care, newborn baby care. Primigravida pregnant mothers usually feel anxious, fear, restless, and full of tense in facing labor. These were due to physiological and psychological changes. The anxiety is possibly caused by the lack of knowledge about the process of childbirth, postpartum, and newborn baby care (World Health Organization, 2012). Objective: To know the influence of childbirth education to improve the knowledge of pregnant mothers about pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum. Method: This study is an analytical descriptive research with experiment design. This was conducted by doing intervention on research subject to know the result of the change after intervention. Data was taken from questionare. Result: After having childbirth education, the knowledge level of the participants increased – from enough catagory of knowledge to be good catagory of knowledge. Conclusion: Childbirth education really influences the knowledge level of pregnant mothers about pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum, and newborn baby care.
