Abstract

Background: Hypertension is often referred to as the “Silent Killer” because it gradually develops without noticeable symptoms. One of the common symptoms is a headache, which typically occurs when blood pressure rises. Non-pharmacological therapy, such as light massage, is a relaxation method that works by stimulating the skin and muscles, helping to reduce both pain and blood pressure. Objective: This study aims to describe nursing care for hypertensive patients experiencing acute pain using light massage therapy as an intervention. Method: This study utilized a descriptive case study approach, presenting the findings in a narrative format. Three hypertension patients with acute pain complaints who agreed to participate were included as subjects. A 3-day Light Massage therapy regimen was implemented, and data were collected using blood pressure monitors and pain scales both prior to and following the therapy. Results: The application of light massage therapy over three sessions lasting 10–15 minutes each proved to be quite effective in reducing pain and lowering blood pressure in hypertensive patients. Recommendation: It is recommended to integrate light massage therapy into nursing practice as a complementary treatment for hypertensive patients experiencing acute headache pain. However, further training for healthcare workers is needed to enhance the effectiveness of this intervention.
