Abstract

Background: Gout arthritis or arthritis is one of the diseases that are often found in joints are characterized by the presence of redness, swelling, and unbearable pain, with a number of sufferers as many as 7.30% in Indonesia. Joint pain in patients with gout arthritis is caused by the deposition of monosodium crystals that accumulate in the joints due to high levels of gout arthritis in the blood. Objective: Describe nursing care the application of shallots compress to decreased joint pain in patients with gout arthritis. Method: This scientific paper was descriptive in nature and employed a case study approach. The data were obtained throught assessment, interview and observation involving three respondents who suffering from gout arthritis. Results: Based on the results of the assessment of the 3 clients, the main nursing problem is acute pain. The intervention and implementation carried out is by carrying out warm compress therapy onion for 5 meetings with a duration of 30 minutes at each meeting. The results of the evaluation after the therapy of the onion compress therapy for 5 times the meeting to 3 elderly obtained the results that the 3 clients experienced a decrease in joint pain by 1 scale per day. So it can be concluded that the therapy of shallots compresses is effective because it has a significant impact on the reduction in pain in the elderly with gout arthritis. Recommendations: Joint pain in patients with gout arthritis can be overcome by using compress therapy onion as non -pharmacological therapy to treat joint pain, swelling, redness. This therapy can also be done independently by patients at home.
