Abstract
Background: Most women are diagnosed in advanced stages of breast cancer initially find a lump in the breast but it is considered as an ordinary thing. Therefore, an effort to increase the knowledge level and attitude of young women in order to prevent the occurrence of advanced breast cancer is very necessary. Seeing the prevalence of the facts, it is then necessary to have an observation about the behavior of breast cancer early detection for young women. This is in the form of attitudes and knowledge that have an important impact to raise their awareness in improving personal health. Objective: To find out the application of health education on breast selfexamination for adolescent women by using AVA (Audio Visual Ads) method to increase their knowledge level about breast self-examination in independent midwifery clinic of Sri Rejeki Wahyuningsih at Karanggayam, Kebumen. Method: This scientific paper is an analytical descriptive with a case study. The writer describes the facts of the assessment obtained through interviews, direct observation, and documentation. The respondents were 5 young girls. Result: After having health education on breast self-examination using AVA (Audio Visual Ads) method, the knowledge level about breast self-examination of 4 participants were in good category. Only 1 participant was still in fairly category because she did not pay attention during the intervention. There was 10% -40% increase in knowledge level of all participants after using the AVA (Audio Visual Ads) method in the implementation of health education. Conclusion: The application of AVA (Audio Visual Ads) method in health education can increase the knowledge level of young women about breast selfexamination.
