Abstract

Background: According to World Health Organization (WHO) incidence of gastritis is around 1.8-2.1 million of the world population per year. The main problem of the gastritis patient that needs to be addressed is pain. Warm water compress therapy is a nursing intervention to reduce the pain. This therapy is to increase muscle relaxation and to reduce pain due to spasms or stiffness and to provide local warmth. Objective: To describe nursing care by applying warm water compress therapy to reduce pain of gastritis patient in Dahlia ward of dr. Soedirman hospital of Kebumen. Method: This research is an analytical descriptive with a case study approach. Data were collected through interview, observation, physical examination, documentation study. The participant was a gastritis patient. The instruments are WWZ and Numerical Rating Scale (NRS). Result: After applying warm water compress therapy, there was a decrease in pain scale of gastritis patient – from 6 to be 3 (mild pain). Conclusion: Warm water compress therapy can be applied to reduce the pain scale of gastritis patient. Keywords: Warm water compress, pain, gastritis
