Abstract
Background: Every year around the world there are around 1.2 million people dying from traffic accidents and 50 million injured (WHO, 2016). Lack of knowledge about first aid in accidents leads to reduced motivation to help victims of traffic accidents in adolescents. Objective: To find out the difference in health counseling with the jigsaw and simulation methods towards students' knowledge and motivation about first aid in accidents Research Method: This study uses a design Quasy design with a pretest and posttest control group design approach. The sample amounted to 100 students taken by purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using the Kolmogrov-Smirnov normality test, descriptive analysis and Wilcoxon and Mann Whitney. Results: Before the health counseling with the jigsaw method and the simulation, the majority of students had enough knowledge (76.0%) and sufficient motivation (76.0%). Similarly, in the simulation treatment, most students had sufficient knowledge (76.0%) and sufficient motivation (80.0%). After conducting health counseling using the jigsaw method and simulation, the majority of students had good knowledge (92.0%) and motivation in the good category (90.0%). Whereas in the simulation treatment all students have knowledge of good categories (100.0%) and motivation in good categories (94.0%). Conclusion: There is a difference in health counseling with the jigsaw and simulation methods towards students' knowledge and motivation about first aid in accidents Recommendations: Future studies are expected to examine health education about first aid in accidents by other methods.
