Abstract
Background: There has been an increase for the need of hospice care with increasing prevalence of chronic diseases. The most common obstacles faced by nurses for this role are professional tension and sense of failure when a patient dies. Therefore, nurses should be equipped with better knowledge and understanding about patients in hospice care. Objective: This research is aimed at describing nurses’ knowledge about hospice care at RS PKU Muhammadiyah Sruweng. Method: It is a quantitative research with descriptive design involving a sample of 130 nurses. Results:Knowledge of nurses about dying care with less categories was 68 (52.3%) respondents.Nurses' knowledge about how to deal with death in dying patients was mostly 58 (44.6%) respondents. Knowledge of the role of nurses in preparing for dying patients with less than 68 (52.3%) respondents. Conclusion:It can be concluded that most nurses’ knowledge about hospice care still belongs to the low category. Recommendation:The next researcher is expected to develop this research towards treatment behavior in carrying out dying care.
