Abstract
Background: Stroke is a clinical syndrome characterized by acute loss of brain function. Physical disability experienced by stroke patients includes loss of motor function (hemiplegia and hemiparesis), swallowing disorders (dysphagia), speech disorders (dysarthria), and impaired elimination. Disability (physical disability) results in sufferers experiencing difficulties in carrying out daily activities so that patients need help in carrying out daily activities. Objective: To find out the description of the use of katz index in assessment of Activities Daily Living (ADL) in stroke patients that have treated care IN PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Methods: This study used a descriptive design with a survey approach. The population in this study were 279 stroke patients and a sample of 74 patients were taken using simple random sampling technique. Data were analyzed descriptively. Results: Most patients aged 50-60 years (41.9%), male sex (67.6%), elementary school education (32.4%). Most patients with Activities Daily Living (ADL) are the most dependent (41.9%) category. Conclusion: Stroke patients experience dependency in Activities Daily Living (ADL). Recommendation: Hospitals are expected to further improve health services and improve the provision of facilities for health aids in carrying out daily activities such as wheelchairs, glasses and sticks.
