Abstract

Background: Breath failure is a condition that there is a disruption of oxygen exchange in the body. One of the factors causing respiratory failure is the airway unclean because there are blockages in the respiratory tract in the form of accumulated secretions. This can be overcome by doing suction actions with the appropriate pressure 100-150 mmHg for adult patients to maintain the patency of the airway so that the oxygen supply in the body is sufficient. Objective: To determine the relationship of variations in suction pressure to changes in oxygen saturation in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) room at Dr Soedirman Hospital in Kebumen. Objective: To determine the relationship of variations in suction pressure to changes in oxygen saturation in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) room at Dr Soedirman Hospital in Kebumen. Method: This used quantitative methods with paired t-test correlation design with cross sectional approach. The study sample was 23 patients using the total sampling method. Results: Oxygen saturation of SpO2 in patients with respiratory failure before the majority suction is <95% (78.1%) while the oxygen saturation of SpO2 in patients with respiratory failure after suctioning is majority, namely 95-100% (91.2%). Average oxygen saturation in patients with respiratory failure after being given suction action with a pressure of 100-150 mmHg is 98%. While the average oxygen saturation in patients with respiratory failure after being given suction action with a pressure of> 150 mmHg is 96.9%. The Sample Paired T-Test test showed a correlation value of 0.474 which means having a close relationship between medium or sufficient variables with a significant value p = 0.022 (<0.05) Conclusion: There is a relationship between suction pressure variations on changes in oxygen saturation in patients who fail breathing in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Dr Soedirman Hospital Kebumen. Recommendation: This research is used as a reference, guideline and inspiration for future researchers so that they can examine more deeply related to oxygen saturation and suction actions such as indicators, factors, effectiveness, application, analysis, etc. so that they can provide a more specific picture.
