Abstract
Background: Now there is a widespread use of e-cigarettes. The reasons people use electric cigarettes also vary, including such as various variants of taste and more fragrant aroma, from tobacco cigarettes. Whereas actually e-cigarettes are also dangerous for the body which has the effect of causing addiction problems because of the nicotine content and increasing levels of nicotine plasma. After a preliminary study in the vaporizer community in Kebumen district with 42 people there were 37 people who said they had used tobacco cigarettes but moved to ecigarettes, and 5 people never used tobacco cigarettes using only electric cigarettes when they first smoked cigarettes. Objective: To determine the characteristics of electric smokers in the Vaporizer Community in Kebumen District. Method: This research is a kind of quantitative research with observational descriptive. A sample of 68 respondents was taken by purposive sampling technique. Results: The characteristics of electric smokers in the Vaporizer Community in Kebumen District were mostly 17-25 years old with 26 respondents (43.3%), female (53.3%), and having a high school education (65%) with using cigarettes for as long as 1-2 years (63.2%), have a history of non-electric smoking (85.3%), and respondents mostly have a level of knowledge about ecigarettes with a sufficient category (60.3%). Conclusion: The reasons for respondents using electric cigarettes in the Kebumen vaporizer community were mostly because they wanted to stop smoking from tobacco cigarettes (32.4%). Recommendation: Further research is expected to focus more on the perception of society the ecigaratte to be safer then tobacco cigarattes and provide more information about e-cigaratte and the effects of e-cigarattes on health.
