Abstract
Background : Hypertension is a disease characterized by an increase in blood pressure above normal, with a systolic value> 140 mmHg and a diastolic> 90 mmHg. According to the Indonesian Ministry of Health. (2017), hypertension in Indonesia reaches 25.8% of the population at the age of 18 and above. Cases of hypertension in Central Java Province amounted to 26.4%. Elderly with hypertension need to get hypertension therapy which is grouped in pharmacological and nonpharmacological therapies. One of the treatments with pharmacological therapy is using tomatoes. Objective : To describe nursing care by providing tomato juice therapy to lower blood pressure. Method : The research method was carried out by one group pre-post test design pre-experimental technique to study the effect of tomato juice therapy on hypertensive patients. The sample size is 2 people, with characteristics: elderly clients with the problem of increasing second degree blood pressure namely systolic 160-180 mmHg and diastolic 100-109 mmHg, elderly clients aged 60-75 years, elderly clients who are able to move, clients who agree to make the subject in this case study. Measurements are taken once a day after administration of tomato therapy for 7 days. Results : The intervention and implementation carried out in the form of the application of tomato juice therapy. In evaluations carried out for 7 days there were significant results in reducing blood pressure by 5 mmHg decrease in each day. Recommendation : Scientific writing is recommended for the elderly with hypertension or the wider community who have hypertension. Keywords: Elderly, hypertension, tomato juice
