Abstract
Background: smoking still becomes one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in Indonesia. Some researches indicate that smoking has been started in adolescence period. Family plays an important role in the promotion of health and prevention of disease in family members. Family plays important role in influencing the smoking behavior in the family if it is compared to children of non-smokers families. The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation between parents’ role and smoking attitude of students in Buayan I Junior High School Methods: this study used correlation method with cross sectional approach. Samples consisted of 100 respondents that were taken by total sampling technique. Data were analyzed by using descriptive and correlation analyses using chi square test. Results: the findings show that the role of parents was in the medium category. Most of the students did not smoke. Conclusion: there is a the correlation between parents’ role and smoking attitude od students in Buayan I Junior High School.
