Abstract
Background: Infection related to health services, namely Health Care Associated Infection (HAIs), is currently one of the causes of increased morbidity and mortality in hospitals. The surgical work unit is a functional work unit in the hospital that is most at risk of infection. Prevention and control of infection in health care facilities is very important if first officers and policy makers understand the basic concepts of infectious diseases. Objective: To determine the knowledge and practice of infection prevention in nurses at the Central Surgical Installation (IBS) of PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Research Methods: This study used a correlative design with a cross-sectional approach. Samples totaling 20 nurses were taken using total sampling techniques. Data were analyzed descriptively and correlatively using the control test. Results: Nurses were mostly with age ≥30 years (75.0%), education DIII (70.0%), and had attended training (80%). Knowledge of nurses about prevention of infection in nurses in sufficient category (60%). The practice of nurses on standard operating procedures on infection prevention in nurses is in a good category (45.0%). There is a relationship between knowledge and practice of preventing infection in nurses (p = 0.000). Conclusion: the better the nurse's knowledge about infection prevention the better the practice of preventing infection in nurses. Recommendation: The need for further research regarding the factors that can influence the practice of preventing infection in nurses at the Central Surgical Installation (IBS)
