Abstract
Background, Fever is the condition which is the human body temperature is increasing tobe above the normal range. The range of human's body temperature is called hypothermic is <36.5℃, normal is 36.5℃- 37.5℃, and Hypertherm is >37.5℃. Thypoid fever is one of the systemic infectious diseases caused by Salmonella bacteria Thypi. How to reduce and control fever can be done by the method of conduction and evaporation, which is one of them with warm compresses. Warm compresses are made using the innovation method, which is combined with onions. Objective, Determining of onion compresses in decreasing body temperature in patients with typhoid fever in PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Methods, Research used quantitative and quasi- experimental design, pretest- posttest with control group design, sampling the consecutive sampling, which 38 respondent, in each group analysis using independent t- test. Results, The results showed that in the onions compress group the averaged body temperature before compressing onion 37.8℃ and after compressing onions 37.4℃. With a significant p= <0,001 is an effect a significant between before and after the onion compress. Conclusion, There is an effect of giving onion compresses to decreasing body temperature in patients with typhoid fever. There was a significant difference between the average body temperature before and after the onion compress. Suggestion, Providing scientific information and references in handling non- pharmacological therapy to reduce body temperature so that it does not always depend on pharmacological therapy
