Abstract

Background: The obligation to live in Islamic boarding schools requires adolescents to adapt to life with the activities, culture and habits of boarding schools that are different from those done at home. All problems faced by adolescents in Islamic boarding schools need a coping mechanism to survive through education in Islamic boarding schools and achievers Objective: To find out the relationship between coping mechanism and the learning achievement of junior high school students at the Al-Huda Islamic Boarding School in Kebumen Methods: This study uses correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample amounted to 160. Data were analyzed descriptively correlatively using the chi square test. Results: Coping mechanisms carried out by junior high school students at the Al-Huda Kebumen Islamic Boarding School in an adaptive category (65.6%). The learning achievement of new students at the junior high school level at the Al-Huda Islamic Boarding School in Kebumen is in the category of Fair (C) (66.4%). There is a correlation between coping mechanism and learning achievement of junior high school students at the Al-Huda Islamic Boarding School in Kebumen. Conclusion: Students with adaptive coping mechanisms tend to achieve. Recommendation: It is expected to examine the factors that influence junior high school students' learning achievement which include the five senses, intelligence, talent, motivation, health, and breakfast habits.
