Abstract
Background: Lack of knowledge about reproductive health has an impact on increasing breast cancer of fertile-age women. According to the Indonesian Ministry of Health, in 2013 there were 19, 731 deaths caused by breast cancer. If not addressed immediately, the Indonesian Ministry of Health estimates that by 2030 there will be 260 million cancer patients and as many as 17 million will die from breast cancer. Based on the data of Health Ministry, the prevalence of diseases in Yogyakarta province was 4.1% and 2.1% of Central Java, as the second rank. Objective: To know the application of peer group education on Breast Self-Examination to increase the knowledge of fertile-age women regarding Self-Breast Examination in independent midwifery clinic of Midwife Maunah at Klirong. Method: This scientific paper is a qualitative descriptive with a case study approach. The participants were 5 fertile-age women. The research instrument was Procedural Operation Standard of Breast Self-Examination, leaflet and questionnaire. Data was collected through interviews, observation, and documentation. Result: Before intervention was carried out the application of peer group education 1 respondent in a sufficient category and 4 respondents in the less category. After having the application of peer-group education about breast self-examnation, there was an increase in knowledge, i.e. from lack category to be adequate category (participant 1, 4, 5), from enough category to be good category (participant 2), and from lack category to be good category (participants 3). Conclusion: The application of peer-group education on breast self-examination can improve the knowledge of fertile-age women about breast self-examination.
