Abstract
Background: Every child has the right to receive basic immunizations in accordance with the provisions to prevent the occurrence of diseases that can be avoided through immunization. There are still many babies and children who have never been immunized at all, 8.7% due to mother’s concerns of effects of such immunizations such as pain. One technique that can be done to reduce pain that is felt by the baby during immunization is one of the kangaroo methods. The implementing of the kangaroo method is able to help reduce pain in giving intra-muscular injections. Objective: Implementing the kangaroo method to reduce pain in intra-muscular injection of HBO immunization in newborns. Method: The researcher used a descriptive analytical method with a case study approach. This application involved 5 participants as a case study. Results: The case study shows the characteristics of babies who are participants in this case study weighing between 3000-3500 grams, gestational age when the baby is born ± 39 weeks, the condition immediately after the baby is born crying spontaneously, reddish skin tone, active muscle tone. After the kangaroo method was given during injection of HBO intra muscular immunization, most participants were in the moderate pain category (60%) while participants with mild pain categories were 2 participants (40%). Conclusion: The application of the kangaroo method effectively reduces the pain of intra muscular injection of HBO immunization in newborns at PMB Suryati, AMd. Keb. Puring
