Abstract
Background: Pleural effusion occurs lung expansion was not optimal, because there is an accumulation of fluid in the pleural cavity. As a result, patients with pleural effusion complain shortness of breath and cause problems ineffectiveness of breathing pattern. Measures to overcome these conditions is oxygen therapy (oxygenation) and pursed lips breathing exercises. Objective: To provide an overview nursing care of fulfilling oxygenation need to Mrs. S with ineffectiveness of breathing pattern in Teratai Ward, Dr. Soedirman Hospital of Kebumen. Nursing care: Assesment has been held on Monday, May 30th, 2016. The patient complain shortness of breath, the result of lung examination was abnormal and x-rays showed pleural effusion dextra. The main nursing diagnosis was ineffectiveness of breathing patterns related to lung expansion was not optimal (hyperventilation syndrome). The implementation is based on the intervention made that assess breathing patterns, monitor vital signs, reposition semifowler, train pursed lips breathing exercise, give oxygen therapy. The evaluation done on the third day that the ineffectiveness of breathing patterns related to lung expansion was not optimal (hyperventilation syndrome) has not been resolved. Analysis action: Pursed lips breathing breathing exercises recommended to overcome the ineffectiveness of breathing pattern especially pleural effusion.
