Abstract
Background: Play therapy is an activity where children can do or practice skills, provide expressions of thinking, be creative, as for the types of games that can be done at the age of preschoolers such as composing blocks, drawing, folding paper, playing marbles, one game that is suitable for preschool age is coloring pictures, where children begin to recognize colors and recognize the shapes of objects around them. Coloring is one of the games that gives children the opportunity to be free to express themselves by coloring. It can also provide pleasure because basically preschoolers are very active and imaginative even through the child is still undergoing treatment at the hospital. Purpose: This case study describes nursing care with the application of coloring play therapy to preschoolers to reduce the anxiety of hospitalization. Method: This paper uses an analycal descriptive method of case studies, the subjects were 2 preschool children aged (3-6 years) who were given therapy to play coloring using paper with various images of fruit and animals, colored pencils conducted for 3 meetings, instruments measurement of anxiety level using Facial Image Scale. Results: Coloring play therapy proved to be an effective therapy to reduce the anxiety of hospitalization in preschool children. Recommendation: Health workers or teaching staff should use coloring play therapy a one of the treatment options to reduce anxiety of hospitalization in preschool children.
