Abstract

Background: Ethnobotany is the study of region’s plants, and is a study of the relationships that take place between traditional communities and the plant environment, especially medicinal plants. Research Purposes: Knowing the types of plants used as medicine. Research Methode: This research uses snowball sampling method by semi structured interview. the number of respondents used was 50 person that comes from Sikayu village, Jladri village, Karang Bolong village, Karang Sari village, and Buayan village at Buayan District of Kebumen Regency. Research Result: Medicinal plants commonly used by the local community of Buayan District of Kebumen Regency as many as 78 species consisting of 37 families. The most widely used plants is from the zingiberaceae family (17,9%). Conclusion: There are 78 species and 36 plant families used by the people of Buayan District. The existence of these types of medicinal plants are currently not yet utilized for commercial purposes. Recommendation: This research is expected to be a reference for other researchers who will discuss ethnobotany studies.
