Abstract

Introduction, the introduction of this research is Syzygium polyanthum leaf contains flavonoids as antihypertensive, in which it has poor bioavailability owing to its solubility and unstable during storage in ambient condition. In order to address these issues, it can be formulated in to nano particle using chitosan-sodium tripolyphosphate (NaTPP). Purpose, the purpose of this research is to characterize the Syzygium polyanthum leaf extract-formulated nanoparticles along with variation of chitosan concentration. Method, the method of this research is maceration using 96% ethanol. Results, the results of this research is ethanol extract of Syzygium polyantum leaf contained flavonoids. Particle size of Syzygium polyantum leaf extract was 284.2 ± 6.8, 410.6 ± 6.8, and 630.1 ± 3.4 nm for formula F1, F2, and F3, respectively. In addition, Zeta potential was 50.1±4.3, 45.8±0.7, and 59.2±1.2 mV for F1, F2, and F3, respectively. These three formulas meet the size requirements of nanoparticles ranging from 10-1000 nm. Conclusion, the conclusion of this research is F1 was the smallest particle formula with <300nm size along with the most stable colloidal dispersion system >30 mV. Recommendation, the recommendation of this research is further testing is needed, namely SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope) to see the size of the scattered particles in the sample.
