Abstract
Background : Diarrhea is a disease characterized by changes in normal bowel movements, increased water content and stool volume, and the frequency of bowel movements increases to more than three times a day. One of the plants that can be used as an antidiarrheal is starfruit leaves (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) and pegagan leaves (Centella asiatica (L.) Urb). Objective : The aim of this study was to determine the antidiarrheal effect of infusion of starfruit leaf (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) and pegagan (Centella asiatica (L.) Urb.) leaves on white male wistar rats using the oleum ricini induction method. Research methods : The type and design of the study used was quantitative laboratory experimental research. The method used in this study is the diarrhea-induced oleum ricini protection method. The parameters observed in this study were defecation frequency, stool consistency and stool weight. The data obtained were analyzed using the One Way ANOVA test then continued with the Post hoc LSD test. Result : The combination of starfruit leaves and pegagan leaves with a concentration ratio of 1: 3 significantly reduced the frequency of defecation and feces weight while the infusion of starfruit leaves and pegagan leaves with a concentration ratio of 3: 1 significantly reduced the consistency of defecation. Conclusion : Infusion of combination of starfruit leaf (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) and pegagan (Centella asiatica (L.) Urb.) has antidiarrheal effect.
