Abstract

Background, Durian is a plant whose rind parts have antioxidant benefits where the fruit’s skin contains flavonoid compounds, tannins, alkaloids, and saponins. Antioxidants are compounds that play an important role in triggering health factors and can countreract free radicals by slowing lipid autoxidation. Research purpose, the purpose of this study was to determine the antioxidant activity of durian rind extract (Durio zibethinnus L.) as a natural antioxidant. Methods, making durian peel extract with soxhletation using 96% technical ethanol followed by evaporation until thick extract is formed. Antioxidant activity test using the DPPH method (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) with a wavelength absorbance of 517 nm. Next, a linear regression was carried out between % inhibition and extract concentration and calculated IC50 value, the value is less than 50 μg/mL (very strong), 50-100 μg/mL (strong), 150-200 μg/mL (moderate), and more than 200 μg/mL (inactive). Result, the results of this study showed an IC50 value of 204,33 ppm (inactive) for durian rind extract (Durio zibethinnus L.) and an IC50 value a 5,63 ppm (very strong) for a solution of vitamin c (ascorbic acid). Conclusion, based on the results of antioxidant activity tests on durian rind extract does not have natural antioxidant properties. Recommendation, the recommendation of this research is that an antioxidant test with another method needs to be done on the durian rind extract (Durio zibethinnus L.)
