Abstract

Background : Based on RisKesDas, cancer in Indonesia increased 1.4% in 2013 to 1.79% in 2018 per 1000 Indonesian population and ranked 8th in Southeast Asia with cancer incidence (136.2 / 100,000 population), whereas in Asia Indonesia ranks 23rd. Cancer treatment by surgery, chemotherapy and radiation, besides causing side effects, the cost is also relatively high Purposes: To find out the toxicity effect of ethanol extract of cherry leaves (Muntingia Calabura L) with the Brine Shrimp Lethality Test method and LC50 value of ethanol extract of cherry leaves. Method: 50-150 mg of Artemia salina Leach larvae were hatched using artificial sea water with a pH of 8-9, for 24 - 48 hours. The larvae of Artemia salina Leach were then put into the test solution with concentrations of 1000 ppm, 500 ppm, 100 ppm, 50 ppm, 25 ppm and 0 ppm for 24 hours with three replications, respectively. The dead larvae at each concentration were then calculated the% mortality, seen the probit value, then a log linear regression curve was made of concentration vs probit value. The linear regression equation is then used to calculate the LC50. Result : The results of the toxicity test of ethanol extract of cherry leaves obtained a linear regression equation y = 1,307x + 2,647. LC50 value based on the equation is 63.1 ppm and included in the toxic category. Conclusion: Ethanol extract of cherry leaves has potential as an anticancer with an LC50 value of 63.1 ppm and is included in the toxic category. Recommendation: Suggest doing a toxicity test with another method.
