Abstract
Background : Free radical are one of causes of various diseases including cancer. The use of synthetic antioxidant compounds can prevent free radicals but cause adverse effects on the human body such as impaired liver, lung, intestinal and poisoning functions so that antioxidant from natural ingredients need to be developed. Objective : Determine the antioxidant activity and IC50 value ganitri (Elaeocarpus ganitrus Roxb.) leaf ethanol extract. Method : Ganitri leaf ethanol extract activity test was carried out using the DPPH method with a vitamin C comparison. Antioxidant ability was measured by decreasing the absorbance of DPPH at 517 nm wavelength after addition of extract with concentrations 20, 40 ,80 and 100 ppm. The absorbance results are then used to calculate % inhibition value and make linier regression curve between the concentration vs % inhibition. A value of IC50 is calculated based on the linier regression curve Result : the result of antioxidant activity test of ganitri leaf ethanol extract obtained a linier regression equation y = 0.3779x + 29.546 and obtained IC50 value of 54,12. Conclusion : Ethanol extract ganitri (Elaeocarpus ganitrus Roxb.) leaf has antioxidant activity with a value of 54,12 and belongs to category of strong antioxidant. Recommendation : suggest when measuring absorbance in a solution of vitamin C should be prepared in new condition an carried out as soon as possible and compare with other antioxidant testing methods one of which is CUPRAC
