Abstract
Background : The newborn baby is not yet able to regulate his body temperature directly at birth. Consequenly he is quickly freezing if the heat loss is not prevented. A baby who suffers from heat loss may have risk of getting sick and dying. Hypothermia is a major cause of morbidity and mortality of newborn babies. Cases of hypothermia can be minimized if the care given to the newborn baby is done in accordance with the existing service standards. Therefore, prevention of hypothermia should be considered and improved. Objective : To perform newborn care by using an innovative newborn baby towel. Method : The method used in this paper is qualitative descriptive with case study approach. The subject was a newborn baby. The instruments used were observation sheet, questioner sheet for midwives and book of mother and child health to obtain data and documentation. The data was processed through three stages: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions (verification). Result : The use of newborn baby towel in the treatment of newborn baby can prevent hypothermia and it can also provide ease for midwives in providing midwifery care. Conclusion : The use of innovative newborn baby towel in performing midwifery care is really able to prevent heat loss of newborn baby and finally that can prevent hypothermia.
