Abstract

Background : Typhoid fever is an infectious disease caused by Salmonella typhi bacteria. Treatment of typhoid fever using antibiotics, but antibiotics can cause allergic reactions and even toxic. This causes the treatment of typhoid fever to be ineffective so that new alternative antibiotic compounds are needed. Ganitri leaves (Elaeocarpus ganitrus Roxb.) is a natural ingredient that has antibacterial activity, but has not been utilized and has never been studied in Indonesia. Purposes : 1) Knowing the antibacterial activity, 2) Find the difference in antibacterial activity, 3) Determinate the minimum concentration to inhibit bacteria. Method : The antibacterial activity test was carried out using the paper disk diffusion method. Data obtained from the measurement of inhibition zone diameter after the incubation period. Data were analyzed statistically using One Way ANOVA and the Post Hoc-Games Howell test. Result : Ethanol, methanol and aquadest extracts of ganitri leaves (Elaeocarpus ganitrus Roxb.) have antibacterial activity as evidenced by the formation of inhibitory zones after the incubation period. ANOVA statistical test results have a value p<0.05 so there are significant differences between extracts. The minimum concentration to inhibit bacteria is ethanol extract 10% by 21.16 mm, methanol extract 10% by 21.07 mm and 10% aquadest extract by 17.13 mm. Conclusion : 1) Ethanol, methanol and aquadest extracts of ganitri leaves have antibacterial activity, 2) There are significant differences between extracts, 3) The minimum concentration of extract to inhibit bacterial growth is 10%. Recommendation : Suggest conducting further research using different solvents, bacteria and methods
