Abstract

Introduction: Neonatal Mortality Rates are an indicator of the 3rd SDGs goal, namely reducing neonatal mortality rates. The neonatal mortality rate due to asphyxia itself is quite high, namely 8-35% in developed countries and 31-56.5% in developing countries. In Indonesia, it reaches ≤ 40 per 1000 live births, or 110,000 newborns die every year. Neonatal deaths due to asphyxia In Kebumen, Central Java reached 27.8% (19 deaths) in 2021. Objective: To identify the overview of asphyxia among newborns at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital in 2021-2022. Method: This analytical descriptive study used a cross-sectional design. It involved 57 newborns selected using a total sampling technique. Data were collected from master tables. Then, data were univariately using the percentage formula. Results: A small number of causes of asphyxia are preterm gestational age (28.6%), surgical delivery (36.7%), and low birth weight babies (34.7%). Conclusion: A small number of factors that cause asphyxia in babies are preterm gestational age and low birth weight babies. Of the babies born at preterm gestational age, surgical delivery and low birth weight babies, most of the babies die.
