Abstract

Background: Powerlessness can occur in individuals who suffer from type 2 diabetes mellitus due to the symptoms that are felt and become a psychosocial problem that affects the physical function of individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Ways to reduce the powerlessness do positive affirmation therapy. Objective: This case study is describing nursing care in clients with type 2 diabetes mellitus with a problem of powerlessness in the work area of Sempor 1 community health center. Method: This study uses a descriptive method with a case study approach on 2 clients with type 2 diabetes mellitus who experience powerlessness in Sampang Village, Sempor District, Kebumen Regency. Evaluation of signs and symptoms of powerlessness using the instrument of signs and symptoms of powerlessness according to Febriyanti (2018). Positive affirmation therapy is given for 5 meetings with a duration of 15 minutes each time. Results: Evaluation there is a decrease in signs and symptoms of powerlessness in client 1 by 5 scores and in client 2 by 3 scores. An increase in the ability to do positive affirmation therapy to reduce powerlessness in client 1 increased by 100% and in client 2 by 83%. Recommendation: This case study is to apply positive affirmation therapy to reduce signs and symptoms in type 2 diabetes mellitus clients with powerlessness problems.
